Meet our Wapuu – Wapuu-KTM

It can’t be denied that one of the cultural cornerstones of WordCamps are the Wapuu’s. The GPL-licensed cuteness originated as an essential symbol of Japanese WordPress community and the trend of creating one that represents a community has gradually been adopted all over the world.

As WordCamp Kathmandu, Nepal 2016 is nearing, we could not resist but to have our own variation of Wapuu. Well, we just needed an excuse to make an adorable Wapuu to add to our collection. This Wapuu has been made using Nepuu, the first Nepali Wapuu, as a base. The alterations made were minimal as possible so as to make Wapuu KTM instantly recognizable. We simply named it Wapuu-KTM. Pinjal Pradhan, the design wrangler for WCKTM 2016, is credited with designing both the Nepali Wapuus till date.

Wapuu-KTM is wearing the same traditional Bhad-gaaule Topi but with a slight change to its pin. A pair of khukuris crossed with Nepal’s flag is pinned to the Topi. Wapuu-KTM is hugging the WordPress sphere in red with the official logo of WCKTM, in white, incorporated into it. A great combo!

We plan to represent Wapuu-KTM as the official mascot of the event and will be printing stickers to give away at WCKTM 2016. So, are you ready to welcome Wapuu-KTM?

If you want to learn the history of Wapuu and see other Wapuus, then click here.
